College days, sports, history, geography, and biography all rolled into one! Boys in the Boat is about a path from Depression-era America to the makings of Hitler’s Berlin. Mostly set in Washington State, this book is chock full of places and times many of our local readers will appreciate! Specifically a story about Joe Rantz, Boys in the Boat takes readers through a complicated and painful family life. In addition, he dreams of escaping the challenges of the Great Depression. In college Joe takes up rowing and races for a chance for the Olympic Gold. This is in most libraries, or you can recommend that they purchase the audio, regular print, or large print edition. If you decide to purchase your own audio version, I especially like Edward Hermann’s audio narration.
